Sessions

Unrushed care, shaped around you.

A session is a place to arrive, be listened to properly and receive treatment that responds to the whole pattern.

How we work together

How it works, and where to start

If you come with a health issue, we begin with an initial consultation and your first treatment. Together we shape a plan: a short series of follow-ups, with simple self-care at home in between, and a summary once things have settled.

If you simply need to rest and reset, a one-off De-Stress session needs no consultation.

01

Initial appointment

Consultation, assessment, and first treatment.

Self-care in between

Practices to support the plan at home.

Follow-up visit

Release and calm the body, reset the nervous system, ease pain.
Revise the plan and your self-care.

Your first appointment

We begin with listening.

If you’re coming to resolve a health issue, your first visit is an Initial Consultation: 2 hours for several or long-standing issues, or 90 minutes for one clear, straightforward problem. If you’re unsure, choose the 2 hours.

  1. Before you arrive: a short health form, so we can make the most of our time together.
  2. Listening: your symptoms, history, sleep, food, emotional load, movement and the daily conditions around your health.
  3. Reading the body: I look at your tongue and ears, feel your pulse on both wrists, and palpate where the body holds tension. Together, these show the pattern behind your symptoms.
  4. Treatment: acupuncture, or acupressure if you prefer no needles, with whatever else your body needs that day.
  5. Your plan: one or two simple, realistic things to do at home, and a suggestion for how often to come.

You remain fully involved in decisions about touch, needling, herbs and suggestions for home.

Assessment

How every session begins.

Initial appointments begin with a conversation, then a closer look: your pulse, your tongue, how the tissue responds under touch. From there, we move into treatment and shape a plan together. Follow-up sessions return to that same rhythm, picking up what has shifted and what still needs attention.

01

Listening

We start with your story and your history: your symptoms, what has changed, and what a hard day feels like in your body. I listen to your tone of voice and how you phrase things too, to what you don’t say as much as what you do.

02

Visual diagnosis

I look at your tongue, its colour, coating and shape, at your face, and at your ears, which hold their own quiet map of the body. These signs point to disharmonies underneath, often before you’d name them yourself.

03

Pulse

I check your pulse in several positions on both wrists, reading what is moving freely and what is not. It tells me about your circulation and your energy levels.

04

Palpation

I touch the body directly. Palpation tells me how the tissue responds, where it holds, and where the pain actually lives, which is not always where it is felt.

During treatment

What a session feels like.

Acupuncture needles are very fine, far thinner than a needle for an injection. Most people feel little more than a light touch as they go in, followed by a dull ache, warmth, heaviness or a gentle spreading sensation around the point. That is a sign the point has been reached, and it usually settles within moments.

How many needles I use depends on what you come with. For stress, emotional strain, migraines and an unsettled nervous system, often only one to four are needed. For physical pain, I may use more, some in and out quickly to release muscle and fascia, others left in to calm the nervous system.

Needles usually stay in for somewhere between fifteen and forty-five minutes. Many people become deeply relaxed, and some drift off to sleep. If you would rather not have needles at all, acupressure and hands-on work can do much of the same work gently.

What may be included

More than one way in.

Every session is built on acupuncture or acupressure. Around it, I add what fits the body in front of me that day, at no extra charge:

After your first visit

Follow-up sessions.

A 60-minute follow-up begins with a short check-in on what has changed since last time: sleep, pain, digestion, mood, energy. We adjust the treatment to where you are now, not where you were. For returning clients there is also a 30-minute session, a quick top-up when life is busy.

At the start, visits work best close together, ideally the first three within two to three weeks, so the early changes can build on each other. As things settle, sessions spread out, and many women then come once a month to keep tension and the nervous system in check. That is why I recommend a five-session package to begin with: it’s a realistic minimum to genuinely feel the difference.

Other ways to come

Not every visit is a course of treatment.

De-Stress

A one-off reset of one or two hours, open to everyone, with no initial consultation needed. Combined, or in the 1-hour session a single therapy such as cupping, gua sha or acupressure.

Deep Work

Four or six unhurried hours to work through several issues in one visit, ideal if you’re travelling from further away.

Online

Needle-free

Acupressure, massage and visceral therapy instead of needles: gentle and ideal for sensitive people, children and teenagers. Anyone under 18 comes with a parent or guardian, who stays in the room.

Practical things

Before and after your session.

Before you come

  • Eat lightly: please don’t come hungry, or straight after a big meal. A light snack an hour or two before is ideal.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothes: acupuncture often works on points on the legs, arms and abdomen, so trousers that roll up easily are best, or bring a pair of shorts. Depending on where the problem is, I may ask you to take off your top or trousers; you’ll be kept covered and warm, with only the area I’m working on uncovered.
  • Choose clothes you don’t mind: I sometimes use massage oil, so it’s best not to wear anything new or delicate.
  • Come with an intention: take a quiet moment before your visit to notice what you’d like to change, or how you’d like to feel.

After your session

  • Go gently: plan an easy rest of the day if you can. Many people feel deeply relaxed or sleepy; others feel light and energised.
  • Drink water and eat simply: and avoid alcohol and hard exercise for the rest of the day.
  • Notice what changes: sleep, pain, digestion, mood. Occasionally a symptom shifts or flares briefly before it settles. Tell me at your next visit, or message me if you’re unsure.
