Whaley Bridge clinic · out of the city, into the hills

Acupuncture for women from south Manchester for Didsbury, Withington, Sale, Altrincham and Wilmslow

Most of what brings women here was built in busy days. Coming out of the city for a few hours is already part of the treatment.

Getting here from south Manchester

From Sale the clinic is about 20 miles, a drive of 35 to 50 minutes depending on the traffic. Altrincham is a few minutes further. From Didsbury and Withington it is a little further than from Cheadle, which is 14 miles and 30 to 42 minutes.

By train, the Buxton line runs direct from Manchester Piccadilly through Stockport to Whaley Bridge, in about 45 minutes. The clinic is a 2 minute walk from Whaley Bridge station and 4 minutes from the station bus stop (buses 199, 61, 60, 60A and 190), so you can read, rest or simply look out of the window as the city thins into fields.

Buses that stop in Whaley Bridge: the Skyline 199 runs daily between Buxton and Manchester Airport, via Hazel Grove and Stockport. The 61 runs between Buxton and Glossop, via New Mills and Hayfield. The 60 and 60A run between Macclesfield and New Mills or Hayfield. The 190 runs between Buxton and Whaley Bridge, via Chapel-en-le-Frith and Chinley. The 199 runs every day; the others run mainly Monday to Saturday. See all bus times for Whaley Bridge →

Making the trip worth it

What you travel for is, first, the person. I learned bodywork by caring for my twin sons: twelve years of massage, every day at first and later three or four times a week, until my hands knew what helps a body and what does not. Alongside that, and for fifteen years in all, I worked as a scientist, testing ideas against data. Both are in every session, the patience of the hands and the clarity of the mind.

If you are driving 40 minutes each way, a 30 minute appointment makes little sense. Sessions here are built for that. A first appointment is two hours, with time to hear the whole story and treat it in the same visit. Follow-ups are an hour.

When there is a lot to work through, or you would rather come less often, there are Deep Work sessions of four or six hours. The six hour visit has a lunch break in the middle, and you can bring food or walk to a café nearby. These longer sessions were made for women who travel from further away, and south Manchester is often far enough to justify one.

If you are not ready for a full course, a De-Stress session of one or two hours is a way to see how your body responds, without a consultation first.

Client stories

I absolutely recommend Ela! From the moment you walk into the calming and welcoming space, you feel completely at ease. She is not only a truly gifted acupuncturist but also incredibly knowledgeable and attentive. She has a deep knowledge of anatomy and correlations between parts and systems of your body and is using this knowledge to help. Every session is tailored with care, and Ela takes the time to listen deeply to what’s the issue at hand. This time I came with lower back pain and sciatica but she also helped my daughter with chronic hayfever.

Agnes, Manchester.

I booked the appointment with Elzbieta because of my chronic pain (shoulder blade, neck and underarm), which I had for the last 18 months. I was attending physio appointments every month since but no improvement… She also gave me lots of dietary advice and materials how to improve my diet and IBS symptoms. Very professional and very helpful, definitely she knows what she is doing.

Make a day of it

A walking reset in the High Peak.

The journey can be part of the treatment. Book an early session, then have lunch in Whaley Bridge and walk it in: up Eccles Pike for the wide views, or along the flat canal towpath. Or do it the other way round: walk in the morning, have lunch, and arrive for an afternoon appointment already a little softer. Time in the hills, close to nature, helps the nervous system settle and rejuvenate, and the treatment goes deeper for it.
