Could you help me?›
Nearly always – YES. In over twelve years of practice, there have been only a few people I could not help because they needed surgery or the damage in the body had gone too far. You will see improvement within three appointments if I can help.
Questions about needles, sessions and what to expect are answered on the FAQ page.
Can acupuncture help boost fertility, and can I have it during IVF?›
Acupuncture and Chinese medicine can support cycle regulation, blood flow and a calmer nervous system, working alongside your GP, gynaecologist or fertility clinic. It is not a replacement for medical fertility treatment, but many women find it a valuable, unhurried addition to their care, including alongside IVF. Timing sessions around your treatment cycle is something we plan together, in coordination with your clinic.
Can acupuncture help with male fertility?›
Yes. Fertility is shared, and sperm quality plays a part in a large proportion of couples who struggle to conceive. Sperm take around three months to develop, so changes made now show up in a semen analysis roughly three months later. Acupuncture, Chinese herbs, nutrition and lifestyle changes, such as reducing heat to the testes, alcohol and smoking, improving sleep and managing stress, can all support sperm health. Some studies suggest improvements in sperm count and movement, though the evidence is still mixed. Treatment works alongside a semen analysis and any medical care you are receiving.
How long before trying to conceive should we start treatment?›
Ideally around three months. Eggs go through their final stage of development over roughly three months before ovulation, and sperm take a similar time to form, so this gives treatment, nutrition and lifestyle changes time to influence the cells that will be involved in conception. That said, it is never too late to begin, and treatment can start at any point in your journey.
Can Chinese herbs help with fertility, and can I take them alongside IVF?›
Chinese herbal medicine has a long history of use for regulating the cycle, supporting ovulation, nourishing the lining of the womb and easing painful or irregular periods. Every formula is tailored to your pattern, and I always check it against any medication you take. Herbs are often used in the months before IVF to prepare the body, then paused or carefully adjusted during ovarian stimulation and after embryo transfer. We plan this together, and acupuncture can usually continue throughout.
What role does nutrition play in fertility?›
A significant one, for both partners. Steady blood sugar, enough protein, healthy fats, and good levels of nutrients such as iron, folate and vitamin D all support hormone balance and egg and sperm quality. NHS guidance recommends a daily folic acid supplement for women trying to conceive and during the first twelve weeks of pregnancy. Chinese dietary therapy adds another layer, favouring warm, cooked, nourishing foods that support digestion and Blood. I give practical, personalised advice rather than a rigid diet, and suggest sensible limits on alcohol and caffeine.
