Acupuncture, Somatic Bodywork & Herbs in High Peak

Acupuncture for migraines and headaches in women, near Stockport and the High Peak

For migraines that arrive on a pattern of their own, and the bracing that comes with waiting for the next one.

A woman presses her fingers to her forehead in pain, holding a tablet in her other hand.

What this can feel like

Migraines that follow a pattern of their own, sometimes tied to your cycle, disrupted sleep or a stressful week. Aura, light sensitivity, or a pain that settles in behind one eye. Days planned around whether one might arrive.

Many women have tried painkillers, triptans or elimination diets, and still feel like they are managing symptoms rather than the underlying pattern.

A woman presses her hands to her temples, eyes closed, in pain.

This might sound familiar if you are living with

  • Migraines that arrive on a pattern of their own, tied to hormones, sleep or stress
  • Aura, light sensitivity, or pain that settles behind one eye
  • Days lost to bed rest, or planned around whether one might arrive
  • Having tried medication with limited or short-lived relief
  • A sense that triggers are inconsistent or hard to pin down
  • Bracing for the next one, even on a good day

How treatment can help

At Zest Acupuncture & Holistic Medicine, I design effective treatments combining acupuncture, somatic bodywork and herbal medicine around your individual pattern, not a fixed protocol.

Acupuncture is one of the more researched uses of the treatment specifically for migraines. I look at your pattern and triggers as much as the pain itself, alongside practical support for sleep, rhythm, hydration and stress.

We begin by mapping your own pattern together: what tends to come before an episode for you, and what tends to help or worsen it. From there, I build a course aimed at reducing how often they come and how intense they are over time, not just easing a single episode.

Common questions

Could you help me?›

Nearly always – YES. In over twelve years of practice, there have been only a few people I could not help because they needed surgery or the damage in the body had gone too far. You will see improvement within three appointments if I can help.

Questions about needles, sessions and what to expect are answered on the FAQ page.

Does acupuncture reduce migraine days, and how many sessions should I try?›

Acupuncture is among the better-researched uses of the treatment, and many women find real preventive benefit: fewer migraine days over a course, not just relief on the day. We also work with pattern, trigger, sleep and stress load. Most women notice a change within four to six sessions, though migraines can take a little longer to settle, and we track your migraine days from the start so neither of us is guessing.

Can acupuncture help hormonal migraines before my period or in perimenopause?›

Yes. Migraines that cluster around your period often follow the drop in oestrogen just before bleeding, and perimenopause can bring migraines back or make them worse as hormone levels swing. We treat that hormonal pattern directly, alongside the migraine itself, and look at the wider picture, including sleep, mood and hot flushes, so the aim is a steadier cycle overall, not just relief when it flares.

Can acupuncture help migraine with neck tension, jaw clenching and shoulder pain?›

Often, yes. Tight shoulders, a clenched jaw or a stiff neck can be part of what feeds a migraine, not just something that comes with it. Bodywork alongside acupuncture treats that tension directly, and for many women that combination brings more relief than acupuncture alone.

Can acupuncture help vestibular migraine, dizziness or migraine nausea?›

Dizziness and nausea are treated as part of the whole migraine pattern, not as separate problems. Points and techniques for nausea are well established in acupuncture, and many women find the dizziness eases alongside the head pain rather than needing its own approach.
