Acupuncture, Somatic Bodywork & Herbs in High Peak

Acupuncture for IBS and digestive issues in women, near Stockport and the High Peak

Bloating, pain and unpredictable digestion, in a gut that has been carrying more than food.

What this can feel like

Bloating that comes and goes without a clear pattern. Pain, cramping or urgency that shapes the day around where the nearest bathroom is. A gut that reacts to stress as much as to food.

For many women, it doesn’t stay contained to the gut. The same pattern can also show up as skin rashes or acne-like breakouts, sinus congestion, a feeling of heat in the body, or racing thoughts and anxiety that flare alongside the digestive symptoms. In Chinese medicine, this is often read as heat or dampness that isn’t clearing properly, surfacing wherever it finds an outlet, skin, sinuses, or a busy, overheated mind, not just the bowel.

In Chinese medicine, digestion and the nervous system are never separate. Treating one without the other rarely holds.

How treatment can help

At Zest Acupuncture & Holistic Medicine, I design effective treatments combining acupuncture, somatic bodywork and herbal medicine around your individual pattern, not a fixed protocol.

I choose acupuncture, herbs and nutrition support together for you, alongside calming work for the nervous system that so often sits underneath digestive symptoms. I look at your rhythm, not just your diet.

Many of the women I see find their digestive symptoms ease as the wider pattern, stress, sleep, rhythm, comes back into balance.

In your first session, I usually map your triggers with you, whether that is certain foods, stress, or a hard-to-name mix of both, alongside your wider pattern of sleep and rhythm, so I can treat the whole picture rather than one flare-up at a time.

Common questions

Could you help me?›

Nearly always – YES. In over twelve years of practice, there have been only a few people I could not help because they needed surgery or the damage in the body had gone too far. You will see improvement within three appointments if I can help.

Questions about needles, sessions and what to expect are answered on the FAQ page.

Can acupuncture help with IBS?›

Acupuncture, herbal medicine and nutrition support are used together to calm the gut-nervous system connection that underlies many IBS symptoms. Many women notice steadier digestion as the wider pattern, stress, sleep and rhythm, comes back into balance.

Does diet and lifestyle matter for IBS, and do I need to change mine?›

Yes, but nothing rigid or extreme. Chinese medicine has always paid close attention to what and how you eat, since food either supports digestion or adds to the burden on it. Alongside acupuncture, bodywork and herbs where needed, we also look at sleep, rhythm, stress and daily habits, which shape digestion as much as food does. Guidance stays simple and practical, shaped around your life rather than adding another restrictive protocol.

Can acupuncture help with both urgency and constipation?›

Yes. Acupuncture works with the gut-nervous system connection underlying both patterns, and is usually combined with bodywork to support motility and ease tension in the abdomen. Herbs are occasionally added where a more specific, sustained effect is needed.
